What is Technology (Societal Approval-Part 5) – TBWJP005

Societal Approval for Survival

Human survival is the foundation of human existence. A person cannot exist unless he can subsist. The individual cannot subsist unless he has the tools and the techniques, which would allow him to maintain his existence beyond chance. That is why technology is important for human survival.

When a person is able to conceive his existence from his own lens, he is also able to view the world from his own prism. When a person views the world from his own perspective, he is also able to generate valuable insights about the world. That also allows the individual the foresight to find the means to survive. Such means often entail the development of tools and techniques to survive.  Those tools and techniques are what I refer here as technologies.

Those technologies are increasingly difficult to develop or even to foresee. The reason is that the individual is under the control. Society restricts the individual as to how he could survive, where he could survive, and when he could survive. At the same time, members of society reward themselves for what they perceive as the standards of survival.

Meeting the Standards of Approval

If the being does not meet the standards of survival, he might be denied any chance of survival. The being often has no choice, but to suffer in silence. He often has no options, but to witness his existential death, however slow, painful, or shameful such a demise might be. Under such circumstances, life becomes a tragedy for the being, at least in the short term. The same, existence becomes a tragedy for the human race, at least in the long run.

In this Podcast, I discuss the nature of societal approval. But I do so in terms of which technology members of society may deem important and which ones they may consider inconsequential. As a result, accepted technologies are venerated; their creators are rewarded. Because of such creations and their subsequent acknowledgement, few people live lavish lives. That is, they are able to subsist comfortably.

By contrast, those who cannot afford such technologies (or the conception thereof) live in abject poverty. Life becomes an infinite loop of misery, pain, and confusion. Many appeal to God for salvation. But God seldom hears their cries.

This is the essence of technologies these days. The being has no other alternatives, but to be according to society’s approval of his Beingness. In most cases, such approval is almost non-existent. The being is naked and left to fend for himself in the social wilderness.
